- Mes Low’s art is a fluid and ever-changing exchange between the canvas and images of her subconscious. Her approach to landscape is one of tightening forms and accentuating the intensity of the environment — creating idealistic, magical landscapes that offer a meditative quality inviting the viewer into a landscape. Her trees take on human-like characteristics as they congregate against dawning skies and tranquil groupings of trees. Her style is achieved through various layers of thinly applied high quality oil paint employing poppy oil for glazing highlights and shadow. Each layer shimmers through, forming her signature style.
Mainly it is about finding the quiet, serene moments in a landscape. That moment when you are singular in a landscape, something that soothes the mind and provides a restful place for the eye to go while employing a hint of whimsy.
Artists such as Dali, Hopper, Woods and contemporaries Penhall & Irving are among her inspirations. Over the years, her paintings have meandered into private collections in Europe, North & South America & Australia.
