About Iris...

Iris Mes Low, a 3rd generation Dutch-born artist, has been painting for over 30 years. She is also an experienced muralist and illustrator.
In 1991, Mes Low made a permanent move to the West Coast of Canada where she continued studies in the Visual Arts at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Vancouver, BC.
Mes Low’s art is a fluid and ever-changing exchange between the canvas and images of her subconscious. Her approach to landscape is one of tightening forms and accentuating the intensity of the environment — creating idealistic, utopic abstractions of the scene. Her trees take on human-like characteristics as they congregate against dawning skies and urban hubs of suburbia. Her style is achieved through various layers of thinly applied oil paint . Each layer shimmers through, forming her signature style.
Urbanization plays an essential role in her work. Finding the quiet, serene moments in a landscape. That moment when you are singular in a landscape, something that seldom happens in times of extreme population density.
Artists such as Dali, Hopper, Woods and contemporaries Penhall & Irving are among her inspirations. Over the years, her paintings have meandered into private collections in Europe, North & South America & Australia.
Member of Canadian Federation of Artists. Work is available through Vandop Gallery, New Westminster or Roamgallery.
The artist runs a B&B together with her family called The Messy Owl Inn in Likely BC, where you can enjoy her cooking and the amazing environment of the Cariboo wilderness.
